Burhill achieves a GolfMark clean sweep
17 February 2010
Burhill Golf & Leisure, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator, has now attained GolfMark status at every one of its golf clubs and centres.
The group, which runs seven golf centres and three golf clubs across the country, has been recognised by the English Golf Union for its hard work in ensuring junior golfers and beginners have a safe and enjoyable environment in which to learn the sport.
GolfMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner-friendly golf facilities, with clubs being assessed on three key areas – coaching and playing, club environment and child protection and duty of care.
Staff at Burhill’s seven golf centres – Abbey Hill, Birchwood Park, Hoebridge, Ramsdale Park, The Shropshire, Thornbury and Wycombe Heights – as well as its three clubs – Burhill, Aldwickbury Park and Redbourn – have put in extensive work to ensure they passed the EGU’s stringent assessments.
A wide range of junior golf initiatives have been instigated at all of the centres and clubs, including a number of centres taking Burhill Golf & Leisure mascot ‘Chip the Bear’ into local schools to introduce children to golf, as well as operating junior fun days at the courses.
Colin Mayes, Burhill Golf & Leisure chief executive, said: “This is a wonderful achievement for every one of our centres. Everyone involved has worked very hard for a long time to ensure junior golfers had a safe and enjoyable environment within which they could learn about golf and improve their game.
“There have been some great initiatives thought up to help drive the sport in local communities, and as a group, we are very proud of every club and centre all the hard work they have put in to secure GolfMark status.”
